New detectors for the DRDC's PIRATES infrared spectrometer

Last July, LR Tech delivers five new focal plane array detectors. These new detectors are intended to update and improve the PIRATES hyperspectral imaging spectrometer operated by Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC) at Valcartier.

These detector arrays use the 8x8 elements focal plane array detector. These new detectors, made of Indium Antimony (InSb), are able to measure spectra of infrared radiation in the mid-infrared region of the electromagnetic spectrum (typically from 1.9 to 5.4 μm). This 8x8 array, that was chosen to optimize the sensitivity, is compatible with the PIRATES family of instruments, including AIR PIRATES and BB-PIRATES. Three of the five focal plane array detectors will be integrated to these instrumental platforms, with their cryogenic system. The goal of this project was to maintain the PIRATES instrument in optimal performance and must be made in accordance with technical specifications.
